The Pop-Up Kitchen

The Pop-Up Kitchen

I love restaurants, cafes and bars but there’s one place that always gets me excited. And that’s a pop-up kitchen. They’re a place of bottled up passion that’s generously served up with love.

The Pop-Up Kitchen in Lyme Regis is fantastic and even more so after a three-month lockdown.

In a small space, big flavours are served up from a stove just a couple of metres away from diners.

You can watch the talented chef at work and chat to them too. The colourful creative space is overflowing with a love for fabulous food.

When we visited, chef Tom Robinson was serving up a four-course set menu (£35) that dazzled.

Hot creamy, crunchy crab croquettes with a tangy Romesco sauce kicked things off wonderfully, followed by sharp heritage tomatoes offset with creamy burrata and delicately flavoured with basil leaves and crunchy crostini.

Rich mushroom ragu and truffle oil pappardelle  was perfectly cooked and very generous in portion size.

The marvellous meal was finished off in hearty style with Tom’s mum’s delightfully sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. The secret to the flavour was in soaking the dates in Earl Grey tea, a top his mum picked up years previously from Good Housekeeping magazine.

In all, it was utterly wonderful cooking from a chef who clearly cares about what his diners think. A delight!
