Hello there.

Welcome to my blog. Join me on my adventures in travel, food and lifestyle. I hope you leave feeling inspired!

What I learned today...

What I learned today...

I love a good idea that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. When something has been mulling around in the back of your brain and suddenly you get that ‘ping’ - your eyes light up because you’ve hit the jackpot. That snazzy, jazzy, brilliant idea has snared you.

Well, say hello to day one of my sequined, dancing, sparkly idea - ‘What I learned today’.

It comes from my love of reading, being endlessly inspired by life and the surprising experiences that can come together to make up a day a little less ordinary.

For years I’ve jotted down the best advice, sayings or inspiring quotes I’ve come across in a notebook. And today it dawned on me that I’m the only one who benefits from this colourful book of scribbles.

So, I’ve decided to begin ‘What I learned today’ in a bid to share whatever gems I pick up to a wider audience.

Only time will tell whether this is a daily, weekly, monthly or random hit list of inspo that arises when the lightning bolt of ‘wow, that’s good’ strikes. But caring is sharing and I do care enormously about lifting those lives I touch and, well, who doesn’t love a good lesson here and there.

There’s only one place to begin and that’s with today’s lessons. I’d say my idea struck on a mundane ‘average’ Tuesday but that would be anything but true. Today was extraordinary for a few reasons.

The first is that it’s the first time for a long time that I slowed right down. For once I didn’t rush or hurry - my inner parent didn’t tell me to ‘get on with it’. I simply savoured the moment and boy did it feel good.

Going slow softened every sinew in my body and made me appreciate the finer details of life. I noticed the rainbows cast on the walls, my coffee in bed tasted extra special and it was simply because I was paying attention without moving straight on to the next thing I needed to do.

The second thing I was inspired by was a beautiful comment from my art tutor Tansy Hargan who said: “I want to collaborate with chance.”

Her words immediately grabbed my attention as I realised that as soon as you embrace this outlook, you’re beginning to allow all that is wild and wonderful within the world to shape your world for the better.

My third and final ‘ah-ha’ moment of the day came from my dear friend Anna. We were discussing perspective. She said: “Sometimes you need to change your viewpoint - take a look in the mirror.”

So simple, so profound. Happy Tuesday!
